Living Quarters

zimmer

Whilst being in Magdeburg as a European Volunteer you can choose between two flats. Both are rented by the AGSA. These apartments are destined on the term for young people, who work in projects from AGSA. Your flat mates will be foreign as German adolescents who work in Magdeburg as volunteers as well.

The adolescents work in different organizations. So don´t be worried about working together with the flat mate or other wise! Both flats are proximal contiguous. So you don´t need to think about public transport after having a jovial evening with the other volunteers. You will live closed to each other, which will facilitate planning of leisure time activities. Either going together at work or return late at night from party, you won´t be alone.

During your voluntary service you will live in a three room apartment or in a four room apartment. Both flats are situated in Sudenburg, 7 minutes away from the city centre called Hasselbachplatz and 5 minutes distant among each other.

Language

Sprachkurse1At the beginning of your voluntary service you will take part in a three-week intensive language course together with other European volunteers from Magdeburg. Step by step you will be brought close to the German tongue. Together with the language teacher Steffi Protassow you can refresh your language skills and create the continuative schedule. But don´t be worried if you don´t have any German language knowledge… It´s not mandatorily necessary.

Primary with the help of variegated self-study programme the working language will become available for you. During the intensive course you don´t have to work why you will have enough time for making homework, maybe read the first book in German, to know your environment for a better, talking to other volunteers about your adventures and other news. When having finished the intensive course you will take part in a continuative language course (2 hours per week) throughout the whole year.

theaterMrs. Protassow is managing a theatre group which is destined to students. That offers the possibility to act together with other volunteers just as international students and act on public stage. There you come to know more about german writers and their acts. The effort by the students was very successful up to know. They performed “Die Verwandlung” (“The metamorphosis”) by Kafka in Eine Welt Haus and Eurocamp for example. Whilst these informal learning you practice german and also find out a lot about Germany and other cultures.

SteffiSteffi Protassow about the language-theatre group: the collaboration works such as I introduce the basic story during the first lesson. That´s the most important thing because I have to enlist the people to play the certain act. Also I concern the author´s story because the acts are parts of their biographies and peppered by their comments. Then the particular parts will be work trough one after another. There will be many modifications according to our requirements. It´s necessary to practice phonetics many times. Often I write the script parallel to the exercises because we can´t perform the acts as they are written in original. Concerning the casting: the people tell me which character they would like to perform and otherwise I propose the optimal role allocation in my opinion. In difference to other theatre groups the most important thing for us is the work by using the German tongue.

sprachcafe-016Another possibility to advance your language skills is the “Sprachcafé” (“language-coffee”) in Eine Welt Haus in Magdeburg. Every 1st and 3rd Thursday in month people from different ages get-together to practice their favoured languages and spend time together. It is not only to practice your mother tongue but rather to improve German as foreign language. Hier you can have a look for more information about the “Sprachcafé”.

Our volunteers at “Miles of Democracy“ 2011

“Voluntarily in Magdeburg – to get involved in Europe” is not only the slogan of our voluntary project but also incentive for engagement. So it was naturally that our European Volunteers took an active part at “Miles of Democracy” with their own ideas. Here are the results of their activities in pictures, videos and an endless story…

meile_der_demokratieOur Voluntaries in Magdeburg. Did you meet them at “Miles of Democracy”? No? …Yes, the clowns for more democracy! Different faces – different opinions? But differences mean also diversity. That was also the opinion of about 50 visitors which posed for photographs together with us.

You can find your photo together with the clowns here.

The clowns were epitomized by Leva from Latvia and Zsuzsi from Hungria. They were supported by the photographs Masha from the Ukraine and Jonathan from France.

Leva: We were dressed as clowns and we asked people if they would like to take a picture with us. Afterwards they have got the possibility to download these pictures from our website. I can´t say that the people were especially friendly but nevertheless they were interested in take a picture together with us. With the exception of some little children which were kind of scared.

Damian from Polen was closely working with the commission of organization of Magdeburg. What has he filmed and how looks the “Miles of Democracy” from his point of view? You can view here.

Also Filip from Bosnia-Herzegovina was away on the project “Politik Orange” (orange politics) and kept records by taking pictures all the day.

zeitzaehler

What do they say, the inhabitants of Magdeburg about the past of their city and what do they wish for its future? At the display stand from “Auslandsgesellschaft Sachsen-Anhalt e.V.” Masha from Ukraine and Agnese from Latvia collected the comments made by the visitors as an endless story on a paper roll. The inspiration was served by Masha with this picture she had drawn by her one.  Here is the whole story…

Once upon a time there was…

A lot of agony and destruction in Magdeburg

Germany and the city of Magdeburg

My lovely childhood here in Magdeburg

A beautiful city

A beautiful road between Uniplatz and E.-R.-Allee

Thor-Stein in “Green Citadelle” but it isn´t anymore

More liberty in forming of opinion

A dino

A Magdeburg hardly built-up and a lot of industries

My beloved homeland since 1969

Less destitution

I wish for…

A colourful, intercultural and world-open city

Feeling safety

Employment for my children in Magdeburg

A smiling Lord Mayor

A MuMa in Magdeburg

Smiling focus! Happy focus!

And it will be forever a colourful and open city

Swimming in the river Elbe again

Magdeburg will prospectively be a bright and open city

Peace in the world

Coloured and bright people walking trough the streets of Magdeburg

More democracy! That the citizens don´t be misled by medias and politics.

More dinos!

A city which grows continuously by reason that there is a lot of employment and you can spend your life in harmony

A world without any wars quite fast; peace, peace & peace, that there is more equity and less cattiness

A city without Nazis!

…UNIVERSAL PEACE!!!
