Magdeburg is the capital of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. It has about 230.000 inhabitants. It´s the second greatest city and one of three regional metropolis of the country.

The city is well known for the emperor Otto I., the first Holy Roman Emperor from 962, who had its royal palace there and lived most of his lifetime in Magdeburg.
In 2005 Magdeburg celebrated its 1200th anniversary.

domThe Cathedral of Magdeburg St. Maurice and St. Catharina or Dome of Magdeburg, had been once the cathedral of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg. It is also the burial site from Otto I.  and the town´s landmark at  the same time. The construction of the cathedral took more than 300 years, from its fundation in 1209 up to finishing its two towers in aproximately 1520. The Dome of Magdeburg is the oldest gothic building in Germany. The dome´s footage is 120 m  hight and its ceiling height is 32 m. The towers are 99,25 m (southern tower) and 104 m (northern tower) high. The cathedral holds many art treasures although it was despoiled and almost destroyed several times.

Die Straße der Romantik ("the road of romance") is a kind of vacation way trough Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. It´s part of the Transromanica (European street of culture since 2006) which has got stations in Germany, Italy, Austria and Slovenia. This road runs in form of an eight and in its centre is the capital city Magdeburg. In the city are 4 stations: the Cathedral, ''Unser lieben Frauen'' (our lady) monastry, St. Petrik´s Church, St. Sebastian´s Church

grunezitadelle"Die Grüne Zitadelle" or The Green Citadel of Magdeburg is a large, pink building of modern architectural art designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. It was finished in 2005. It is the last project Hundertwasser was working on before he died. In the ground floor there are several comercial operations, a coffee bar, a restaurant and a Hundertwasser-shop. Furthermore the building shelters one Hotel and a kindergarten. A predominant part of the building is used as living space. Hundertwasser is very especial because none of the windows has got the same form, most part of the roof is overgrown with grass, and after finishing the building it´s not destined that you take a hand in its outer appearance anymore.

Leasure time in Magdeburg:

radMagdeburg is a green city. You can choose between Rotehornpark , Elbauenpark and the historical Herrenkrugpark for leasure activities, events or just as recuperation.

turmThere is also a considerable nighlife in Magdeburg. The area near by the Hasselbachplatz is full of bars, beer taverns, restaurants and stuff like that... Two times a year there take place a special event called "Hassel Night Line". Therefor the total area is converted into a pedestrian zone, they built up open air stages and celebrate a great street festival.
